2017/2018 – Welcome to Urban Calgary Students Association! Message from the President.

Hi everyone my name is Raj Dhaliwal and I am heading into my last semester of my Urban Studies degree. I am honoured to be the 2017/2018 president of UrbanCSA, and I look forward to providing students with all kinds of resources, support, and cool opportunities!

If you are an undergraduate student in Urban Studies/Geography and are passionate about architecture, urban planning, and sustainability, and are looking to gain more information about these careers/fields outside of the classroom, please sign up with UrbanCSA to receive monthly newsletters. It is completely FREE! We will also be visiting classes next week with sign up sheets, and will have a booth at Clubs Week in Machall Courtyards on September 19, 20, and 21.

For the 2017/2018 school year we will be hosting two major events, one on architecture/urban planning (Fall Semester), and the second on net zero homes, green energy, and the future of autonomous vehicles in cities (Winter Semester)!

Volunteer Opportunities and external events

Aside from our events we have an active Facebook page @urbancsa where we will be posting biweekly volunteer opportunities within the university and all across the city, with the possibility to earn hours towards your co-curricular record. We will also be posting external events that relate to the urban studies, geography, architecture, and urban planning degrees.

Academic Support

With an eight member executive council, we are more then happy to answer academic related questions for students in the Urban Studies degree. If you want course advice, course recommendations, or have any other questions related to your degree please do not hesitate to email us at urbancsa@ucalgary.ca. You may also reach me, Danielle (Executive VP), or Dustin (Club Director) directly by visiting the “Contact us” tab. There you will find our direct emails.

Urban Studies Road Map

This year we will be launching an Urban Studies road map that will assist students by supplementing degree navigator. With the road map students will be able to understand their degree requirements and layout their degree paths more clearly then degree navigator. Furthermore the road map will become a tool for students to understand the possibilities of “specializing” in certain areas whether they are interested in GIS, politics in cities, minoring in architecture, the new Certificate in Sustainability Studies, and much more!

ActivateYYC Project

UrbanCSA is pleased to announce that we have been awarded an ActivateYYC grant and are in the process of implementing a new project at the University of Calgary that will bring students together, and allow them to share their thoughts about university life. The project is in the planning stage and will be announced once planning and logistics have been completed. Stay Tuned!

Thank you for visiting our site, I hope to see you around, and don’t forget to sign up! If you have any questions or comments, please email us at urbancsa@ucalgary.ca.

Best of Luck in the 2017/2018 school year!

Raj Dhaliwal – President
