“A community party will rock the shores of the Bow River Saturday as Calgarians converge to celebrate the opening of the Peace Bridge.
The afternoon will see entertainment by local poet Kirk Ramdath, performances by local bands Robot Workers,Locomotive Ghost,Nix Dicksons andSpencer Jo & the Mandrills, cultural dance groups, a Chinese lion dance byWhite Brow Hap Ging Do Martial Arts and Lion Dance Association and hip-hop crews The Original Rudes and Grim Reminder.Performances will take place on a stage on the south bank of the river, on the bridge itself and on the park area at the south end of the bridge.
The unique travelling DJ vehicle, The Bass Bus, will be on-site offering tours and music. Food trucks will be set up along the pathway system on the south side of the bridge and the Big Bike roving coffee cart will be circulating through the park. There will also be information booths on the south promenade to promote upcoming events planned for the area.
The celebration is being organized by the community with assistance from The City of Calgary.
Pedestrians and cyclists approaching the party from the north side of the river should note access to the Peace Bridge is restricted until approximately 2:15 p.m. due to a marathon occurring along the north pathway. People wishing to be on-hand for the initial opening activities at the south end at 2 p.m. are encouraged to use alternate routes.” – City of Calgary
