Ximena Gonzalez De Aguinaga, Environmental Design Graduate Student, will be presenting on All-Inclusive Tourism Development: Contested Space in El Borrego, Las Islitas and Matanchén Beaches (Mexico).

Ximena will decode and re-define the conceptualization of development and its physical attractiveness, analysing the issues created by tourism growth in developed regions such as Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. She will then break down the existing features of El Borrego, Las Islitas and Matanchen Beaches – as currently undeveloped areas contested for future development. She will examine the potential fit with spatial planning approaches such as Smart Growth and New Urbanism, and illuminate how development may not always look the way we expect it to.
